In Islam, respecting elders is of great importance. Hence the well-known saying: "The respectful are blessed, and the disrespectful are deprived." The Holy Prophet ﷺ said:
لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَمَنْ لَمْ يُؤَقِّرْ كَبِيرَنَا
Translation: That person who does not show compassion to the younger ones and that person who does not show honour to the elders is not from amongst us (our society).
(Musnad Ahmad)
Following the example of Hazrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique RadiAllahu Anhu, Imam-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat Alaihir Rahmah would personally wash the hands of respected guests and serve them food. Throughout his blessed life, there was never an occasion when he neglected the respect due to his elders or showed the slightest reluctance in honoring them. He consistently treated them with the highest esteem and deep reverence.
