Ibn Asaakir reports with his own merit from Abu Ayub Khaza’i (radi Allahu anhu) that during the reign of Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab (radi Allahu anhu) there was a young worshipper who remained in the Masjid at all times in constant Ibaadat, and he was very much liked by Hazrat Umar (radi Allahu anhu). He had a father who was very old, and at night he would go to his father (to serve him). On the way (to his home) was the house of a malicious woman, who became obsessed with him, so daily she would come out and stand on the path which he took, until one day she convincingly took him to the door of her home. As he was about to enter, he remembered Almighty Allah and immediately recited the verse of the Qur’an: Verily those who fear (Allah), whenever they are lured by some devilish enticement, they become forewarned, (and) immediately their eyes are opened (to the reality). [Part 9, Surah Al A’raf Verse 201] The moment he recited this Ayah, the young man fell down unconscious. The lady summoned her female servant and they both dragged him and dumped him at the entrance of his home. When his father went out in search of him, he found him unconscious at the entrance of his home. He picked him up and carried him into the house. As the night came to an end, he regained consciousness, so his father said, O my dear son! What happened to you? He said, All is now well. His father said; I give you the Name of Allah! Please inform me of what happened to you? Hence, he explained the entire situation to his father. His father asked, Which verse did you read? He again recited the same verse, and as soon as he recited it, he again collapsed. Those present tried to shake him, but realised that he had passed away. Hence, he was buried by the people that very night. In the morning the news of this was given to Hazrat Umar (radi Allahu anhu) so he went to the father to console him. He said to the father, Why did you not inform me of this? He said, O Ameerul Momineen! It was late at night and it would have caused you discomfort. He said, Take me to his grave! He then went with his companions to the young man’s grave and said, ‘And for him, who fears to stand before his Rub, there are two Jannats’ [Part 27 Surah Rahmaan Verse 46] The young man then replied from inside his grave. He said, O Umar (radi Allahu anhu)! My Rub has already blessed me with both those Jannats.
My Dear Brothers in Islam! This was a personality who had no intention of sinning, but he was convinced by a sinful female to enter her home, but his heart was full of Imaan and fear for Allah, so on reciting the verse of the Qur’an, he realised he was at a place where he would fall into sin. He abstained, so look at the blessing which he attained. Now! My young brothers, those of you that proudly (Allah forbid) and arrogantly commit adultery and without even being wrongly drawn, you attempt to draw women towards sin, do you not fear Allah? Do you not fear the fire of Hell, The fuel of which is Man and Jin? Whenever your mind wanders and your heart errs, remember the above narration, and think about your actions! Do you not fear that you are taking the honour of one of your sisters? Have you not realised that a believing sister is the sister, mother and daughter of someone, but more importantly she is a servant of Allah and an Ummah of Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam)? How can a person who claims to be a believer, ever allow himself to cause a believing sister to be treated by him so vilely? Have you forgotten that she will die one day and so will you? Repent! Repent! Repent!
Jummah Mubaarak!
