Meelaad Shareef is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet

Meelaad Shareef is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ

The commemoration of the Meelaad Shareef is firmly rooted in the Sunnah. The Holy Prophet himself spoke of his blessed birth (Meelaad Shareef) and noble ancestry. In emulation of this Prophetic precedent, the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa Jama'at continue to observe Meelaad Shareef gatherings with reverence and devotion. Opponents of this practice, however, remain deprived of its spiritual blessings.

Hazrat Abbaas RadiAllahu Anhu narrates that upon hearing of an individual who had disparaged his lineage, the Messenger of Allah ascended the pulpit and said: "Who am I?" The Companions RadiAllahu Anhum responded, "You are the Messenger of Allah." He declared: "I am Muhammad, son of Abdullah, son of Abdul-Muttalib. Indeed Allah Almighty created all creation and placed me in the best of them. He then divided them into groups and placed me in the best group. Then He formed tribes and placed me in the best tribe. Then He formed households and placed me in the best household and purest lineage." (Tirmidhi Shareef/Chapter on Supplication)

This narration clearly establishes that the Holy Prophet convened a gathering in which he spoke of his own blessed birth (Meelaad Shareef) and noble ancestry. It also highlights that one of the purposes of Meelaad Shareef is to refute those who slander the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
