It is narrated by Hadhrat Saad bin Aus Ansari (radi Allahu anhu) that on Eid-ul-Fitr, the Angels of Allah gather on every corner of the roads and call out:
“O Muslims! Go early towards Allah who accepts your small prayer and gives rich reward. You were ordered to observe fast and you have accomplished it. You have also prayed at nights. Now go and take the reward of your devotion.”
When people have finished their prayer, a caller cries:
“Allah has forgiven your sins. Return to your homes purified. Your fasts and your prayers have been accepted and fulfilment of your needs has been promised. This is the Day of Scrutiny.” (Tibrani)
In the Heaven, this day is called the Day of Scrutiny. The night is called 'Laytatul Jaa-i-Zah', the 'night of prize-giving', the night when Allahu ta'ala gives the true reward.
NAWAFIL SALAAT ON THE NIGHT OF ZIL-HAJJ, EID-UL-FITR, EID-UL-ADHA AND 15THSHABAAN
Hadhrat Abu Amama (radi Allahu anhu)has stated that the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said that whoever observes the two nights of Eid-ul-Fit and Eid-ul Adha with worship and devotion, will have their hearts alive on the Day of Judgement. (Ibn Maaja)
Hadhrat Mu’adh bin Jabal (radi Allahu anhu)has narrated that the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said that whosoever observes the five nights of 15th Shabaan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and the 8th, 9th and 10th of Zil-Hijjah, will have Paradise assured for himself. (Ishabani).
Observing these nights mean keeping awake and praying on these auspicious nights.
The night should be spent in prayer (ibadat) and not only in Eid preparation or sleep. With the end of Ramadan, the Satan and his company are freed from the restriction that Allahu ta'ala had imposed on them during Ramadan. Avoid chand-raat activities like partying, dancing or merrymaking which also take up auspicious time that could be usefully employed in ibadat.
The Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "Whoever remains awake for ibadah on the night preceding Eid with the aim of gaining reward his heart will not die on that die when hearts will die." Thus he will be protected from evil and his heart will be alive and his soul will be conscious on the Day of Reckoning.
NAWAFIL SALAAT ON THE MORNING OR ON THE EID DAY OF EID-UL-FITR
It is narrated in the Hadith that any person who on the morning of the Eid day, before or on the day after Eid, prays 4 raka’at nawafil, reciting in each raka’at after Surah Fatiha, Surah Ikhlas 21 times, then Allahu ta’ala will have all the 8 doors of Heaven open for him and close the seven doors of Hell for him. The person will not die until he has seen in dream his place in Heaven.
DESIRABLE ACTIONS ON EID-UL-FITR
TAKBEER ON EID DAY
While going for Eid-l-Fitr prayers, one should recite takbeer slowly on the way to the mosque. While going for Eid-ul-Adha, one should say takbeer loudly. The takbeer is as follows:
“Allahu Akbar. Alllahu Akbar. La ilaha illallahu Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar wa lillahi-hil Hamd.”
(Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god except Allah, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, and all praise be to Allah).
On the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims throughout the world perform traditional Eid Salaat which is compulsory upon all Muslims. It is not permissible to miss the Eid salaat without any valid reason. Also, one must listen to the Khutba in the mosque after the salaat. Given below are various actions which are desirable on the day of Eid and some of them are Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and therefore deserving appropriate reward for performing them.
To trim the hair and nails.
To perform Ghusl
To use miswak
To wear new or good clean clothes
To wear a ring (for men- a silver ring with one stone).
To use perfume.
To go walking to the mosque or place for Eid prayers. One may come back by other means of transport.
To perform Fajr prayers in the nearest mosque in your area.
To give Sadaqah-e-Fitr before the Eid prayers. See Hadith below.
To go from one street and return through another.
To eat a few dates (preferably odd numbers) or anything that is sweet before going for Eid prayers.
To show happiness and gratification.
To give charity in abundance.
To walk modestly, relaxed and in a dignified manner towards the mosque or Eid gathering.
One may need to get up early on Eid day in order to carry out the above actions. If we have persevered through Ramadan, then one must endeavour to carry out these actions in the way they should be observed.
SADAQAH-E-FITR
The Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) has stated: “Until the Sadaqa-e-Fitre is paid, the fasting of a person remains suspended between the skies.”
He enjoined Zakatul Fitr as a means of purification to the fasting person from (any) vain talk or deeds or obscene language, and as a sustenance to the poor. Whosoever discharges it (i.e. pays his Fitra) before the (Eid) salaat, then it is an accepted Zakaat (of Fitra) and whosoever discharges it after salaat, then it becomes an ordinary charity.
It is Wajib (compulsory) to give Fitra. It is Sunnah to give before Eid salaat. If this is not possible, it should be given after salaat. It is given to a person to whom Zakat is acceptable. The amount payable for Sadaqa-e-Fit can be ascertained from your local mosque.
