Love For The Less Fortunate

Always make Shukr (be grateful) for whatever Almighty Allah has given you, and don’t ever forget those who are less fortunate than you. Never look down on the poor, the orphan and the needy, but look at them with the sight of love and compassion. This is what our Nabi Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam taught us. Today, there are so many people who are proud of their financial status and hence look down on those who are less fortunate. This is not the sign of a true Believer.

The Beloved Rasool Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, "I looked into Jannah and saw that the majority of the people in it were the poor, and I looked into Jahannam and I found that the majority of the people in it were women." [Bukhari Shareef]

When we assist the needy, the orphan and the less fortunate, we should not do it for name and fame or to try and portray how generous we are, but we should do it for the pleasure of Allah and His Rasool Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam. It is mentioned about Hazrat Imam Zainul Aabideen Radi Allahu anhu that he would discreetly send money to the poor people living in Madinah Shareef and none of them knew that the money was coming from him. The only time this became known to them, was after his Wisaal. [Tareekh ul Khulafa]

We should learn from the truly pious and look at how they strived to assist the less fortunate, especially children who were in need. Hazrat Sirri Saqti radi Allahi anhu says, “I once saw Hazrat Ma’roof Karghi radi Allahu anhu gathering dates on the day of Eid, so I stopped and asked the reason for this. He said, 'That young boy is crying because all the other children have new clothes and he has nothing new on Eid day. I thus, decided to collect some dates, sell them and then buy something for him, so that he is kept busy playing and does not feel uncomfortable on the day of Eid.” Hazrat Sirri Saqti radi Allahu anhu says, “I said, Huzoor there is no need for you to do this, I will make sure he gets something on Eid. I then took the boy with me and bought him a new set of clothes. After I did this, a Noor (light) entered my heart, which brought me great pleasure and my condition became very different (i.e. special)”
[Masaalikus Saalikeen vol.1 pg 287]

When last have you gone out of your way to assist someone in need or someone less fortunate than you, with true sincerity and compassion? Love the poor, the orphan and the less fortunate as Nabi Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam loved them.

Attaining Closeness To Almighty Allah

Food For Thought

Every true believer longs to attain closeness to Almighty Allah. This however, cannot be attained by simply longing without making true effort and having full faith in the Mercy of Allah. If a person wishes to attain closeness to Allah, he should try to fulfil his Obligations in the Court of Allah, and most importantly he should truly love the Beloved Rasool (Sall Allahu alaihi wasallam). Nowadays, we speak about wanting to become close to our Creator, but sadly many of us are so lost and drowned in the Duniya and the materialistic vices of this Duniya, that we are unable to take the first true step towards Spiritual Excellence. If we carefully observe and examine the lives and the wise words of the true and pious servants of Allah, we will learn that this is not an easy path, but it is one which a servant attains by the Grace and Mercy of Allah. I would like to present two incidents related to two Great Sufis and Imams of Spiritualism in their Eras, so that we may better understand the meaning of ‘Attaining Closeness to Allah’. I pray that after reading both these blessed incidents, each one of us will attempt to reflect on our lives this far and think about what it is that we really should be doing.

🌹Hazrat Ibrahim bin Adham (radi Allahu anhu) once asked a person, “Do you wish to become a pious servant of Allah?" He said, “Yes (I do)”. He said, ‘Do not attach yourself to anything from this world or the hereafter, and keep yourself totally free for Allah, and do not only turn towards Allah (i.e. the remembrance of Allah) with your face, but turn your entire existence towards Allah (i.e. Allah's remembrance), so that He may place His Special attention upon you, and so that He may make you His Friend (i.e. His Beloved).”

🌹In the time of Hazrat Zun’noon Misri (radi Allahu anhu) there was a very competent pious Tabeeb (Physician). Throngs of men and women alike would visit him in their illness, and he would diagnose (their illness) and prescribe excellent medicine for their illnesses. Hence, the people were very pleased with his treatment. Once, Hazrat Zun’noon Misri (radi Allahu anhu) consulted with him, and asked, ‘Do you also have a treatment for sinning (i.e. To stop sinning)?’ The Tabeeb (remained silent for a while) and then said, ‘If I give you the treatment (i.e. the prescription) for this purpose, will you be able to understand it?’ Hazrat Zun’noon replied, ‘In Sha Allah, I will try to understand it.’ So, the Tabeeb said, ‘To treat the (disease) of sinning, you will first need to gather a few ingredients, so listen to the details carefully. (You will require): The Seeds of Sabr (Patience); the leaves of Gratitude (Shukr); the peels (wrappings) of humility and politeness; the oil of awe (True Fear); and the concentrate of love, warmth and truthfulness. You must then put all of this into the Vessel of Shariat, and underneath it you should burn the fire of true longing, slowly stirring it with the ladle of Brilliance, until the effervescence of wisdom comes to the surface. Now move this out by the cleansing of your thoughts. When this becomes nice and pure, pour it into the goblet of Remembrance (Zikr), and strain it with the filter of pleasure. Thereafter dilute it in shame, repentance and (reflection on your deeds), and drink it whilst sitting in complete seclusion. Thereafter, rinse with the water of faithfulness, and always perform the Miswaak (i.e. cleansing) of fear and hunger. Also (remember to) partake in the fruits of contentment; and in order to keep the face clean (and glowing), wear the stole of abstention from any other than Allah. If one does this, In Sha Allah, the disease of sinning will fade away, and you will attain closeness to Almighty Allah.

Subhaan'Allah! Subhaan'Allah! Subhaan'Allah!

Now Look at the level of piety and Ruhaniyat of these blessed personalities and now look at those who only claim piety for the sake of worldly name and fame!

Dream Fortune

In the present day and age, almost every person is lost in the materialistic world, seeking out his ‘Dream Fortune’. Our ambition has become finance, and our love for the wealth of this Duniya is destroying us, like it destroyed many nations before us. Today, people even compromise their Imaan (Allah Forbid) for the sake of financial gain and to attain worldly name and fame. Do such people have no shame? Do we not fear Allah? Do we have no shame in the Court of Rasoolullah ﷺ? We are so lost in trying to make millions that we have forgotten that sustenance comes from Allah! Have we forgotten that Allah is the True Provider! Have we forgotten that you will only get what is due to you?

We should try to understand and realise, that it is all about ‘Yaqeen’ (having true conviction). If a Believer keeps faith in Allah and is sincere in his efforts to please Allah and His Rasool (Sall Allahu Alaihi wa Sallam), he will In’sha Allah always receive his sustenance. Allah will provide for him from where he could not imagine. We must learn to have trust in Allah and understand that Allah provides for us. He is Raz’zaaq. A Beautiful Incident with regards to trust in Allah comes to mind. Let me share with you this beautiful incident that teaches us that the sustenance of those who have full trust and Faith in Allah reaches them from where they cannot even imagine. It is mentioned that once, Shaykh Abu Ya’qub Basri (Rahmatullah alaih) remained without food in the Holy Haram for ten days (consecutively). He started to experience symptoms of debility. In this condition, a thought entered his heart that it would seem advisable to go out towards the wastelands, as there was possibility of finding something there which will be sufficient to eradicate the intense hunger. When he reached the wastelands, he found a turnip which was already rotten. He picked up the turnip, but from within he felt uncomfortable and unclear. His heart said to him, ‘After suffering from hunger for ten days, is a rotten turnip all that is meant for you?’ He threw away the turnip and returned to the Masjid-e-Haraam. After a short while, a person entered the Haram and approached the Shaykh. He sat in front of the Shaykh and began opening a bag. Whilst doing so, the person said, ‘Here are five hundred Ashrafis (gold coins), and they belong to you.’ Astonished, the Shaykh said, ‘Why is it for me?’ The man answered, ‘Ten days ago, I was travelling by sea and it was near that our ship would sink. All those on board took vows, each making an intention which could save his life. I too took a vow, that if we were saved from drowning, I would go to the Holy Kaaba and hand these five hundred Ashrafis to the first attendant whom I see on entering the Haram. Hence, you are the first person whom I saw when I entered the Holy Haram, so please accept this from me.’ The Shaykh requested the man to open the bag. When the man opened the bag, they found it also contained, bread, peeled Egyptian Almonds and sugar candy. The Shaykh took a handful of these items and said, ‘Take whatever else is in this bag and share it with your family. It is a gift from me.’ Shaykh Abu Ya’qub Basri (Rahmatullah Alaih) then says, I addressed myself and said: “O Nafs! Your Rozi (sustenance) was on its way you for the past ten days, yet you went out into the wastelands in search of it.” This does not mean that you should sit around lazily, waiting for your sustenance to come to you, but what it really means is that you should fulfil your obligations to Allah and strive for Halaal sustenance to the best of your ability, without compromising your faith, and undoubtedly, your sustenance will come to you. How about each of us ask ourselves this question, ‘What don’t we do for financial gain?’

Burden of Three Pence

AlaHazrat (Alayhir Rahmah) was asked a question about a (supposed) man called Zaid who delayed in paying a debt and made lame excuses without any valid reason. AlaHazrat (Alayhir Rahmah) answered:

"Zaid is a sinner, corrupt, an oppressor, a liar and liable for punishment, what else does he want to be called! If he dies without paying the debt he will have to give the creditors his good deeds. He will have to give 700 Salah with Jama’at for approximately 3 paisas (that he owes). If he runs out of good deeds he will have to carry the burden of their (the creditors) sins and will be thrown into the fire of Hell. This is justice, and Allah does not forgive the rights of others until the one whose right was violated forgives. The debtor must have mercy on himself and become free of the burden of debt. He should not consider his death far from him; he would not be able to bear the torment of fire." [Fatawa Razawiyyah, Vol. 25, Page 69]

The Sawab of Charity Daily

If someone borrowed money from you and did not pay back within the agreed period of time, you should not get disappointed. You will get a daily Sawab of donating that amount of money as charity (Sadaqah) in sha Allah.

Once, someone said to AlaHazrat (Alayhir Rahmah), "I have given some debt to a person but he does not return." AlaHazrat (Alayhir Rahmah) said, "In the present era, it is unlikely to recover debt from someone; people owe me 1,400 rupees! While giving them debt, I made up my mind that if they paid back, it would be all right, otherwise, I would not ask them to return. To date, none of them returned even a single penny. I do not forgive such debt. Its reason is that a hadith states:

'If a person lent money to someone and the agreed date of return passes, he gets a daily Sawab (reward) of donating the amount of debt as charity.' [Majma’ az-Zawaid, Vol. 4, Page 242, Hadith 6676]

This is why I gave the money as a debt instead of a gift! Otherwise, how would I be able to donate 1,400 rupees daily?” [Al-Malfuz, Vol. 1, Page 40]

Lam Yaati Nazeeruka Fii Nazarin + English Translation

The One And Only Poem In Praise Of The Holy Prophet, Written In 4 Languages

By the “Hassaan” of Hind, Imam Ahmed Raza Khan alQadri (may Allah shower mercy upon him)

English Translation by Aqib alQadri

Lam Yaati NazeeruKa fee Nazarin; Mislay To Na Shud Paida Jaana
Jag Raaj Ko Taaj Toray Sar So; hai Tujh Ko Shahay Do Saraa Jana

Never will anyone see someone like you; no one was ever born, with a status like you!
The crown of ruling the world befits only you; the king of both worlds, we acknowledge is you!

alBahro Ala WalMowjo Tagha; Man Baykas O Tufaa(n) Hosh Ruba
Manjdhaar Me Hu Bigdee Hai Hawa; Mori Nayya Paar Laga Jaana

The sea is high and the waves are rebellious; I am weak while the storm numbs the senses!
I am caught in a fast current, with a wind that opposes; steer my ship to success!

Ya Shamsu NazarTi ilaa Layli; Chuba Taibah Rasi Arzay Bokuni
Tori Jot Ki Jhal Jhal Jag Me Rachi; Meri Shab Nay Na Din Hona Jaana

O Sun, you have observed my night; when you reach Taibah, relate my plight!
With your radiance, the whole world is alight; but my darkness has seen no daylight!

Laka Badrun Fil Wajhil Ajmal; Khat Haala E Mah Zulf Abr E Ajal
Toray Chandan Chandr Paro Kundal; Rahmat Ki Bharan Barsa Jaana

The full moon rises in your face, most handsome; the beard is a halo, the tresses rain-clouds, heavy!
Your sandalwood hued, moon like face shows the signs; so now let fall the torrents of mercy!

Ana Fi Atashin Wa Sakhaka Atam; Aye Gaysu-Ay Paak Aye Abr E Karam
Barsan Haaray Ram Jham Ram Jham; Do Buund Idhar Bhi Giraa Jaana

I am thirsty and utmost is your generosity; O the sacred hair-locks, O the clouds of mercy!
Your rain falls in a steady drizzle, all over; so let a few drops also fall on me!

Ya kaafilati Zidi Ajalak; Rahme Bar Hasrate Tishna Labak
Mora Jiyara Larje Darak Darak; Taibah Se Abhi Na
Suna Jaana

O my caravan, lengthen your staying; have mercy upon the thirsty lips’ longing!
My heart beats fast, trembling; from Taibah so quickly do not announce the parting!

Waahan Li Saweeaatin Zahabat; Aa(n) Ahde Huzure Baargahat
Jab Yaad Aavat Mohe Kar Na Parat; Darda Wo Madine Ka Jaana!

Alas those moments have passed; in the Prophet’s court the fleeting time spent!
When I recall I just cannot forget; how uncaringly, to his city I went!

Al Qalbu Shaji(n)v Wal Hammu Shajun; Dil Zar Chuna(n) Ja(n) Zer Chunu(n)
Pati Apni Bipat Mai Ka Se Kahu; Mera Kaun Hai Tere Siwa Jaana

My heart is hurt and my sorrows are countless; my heart is distressed and my soul is dejected!
O master, to whom shall I relate my grief; who else do I have save you, O Beloved!

Ar Ruhu Fidaa-Ka Fazid Harka; Yak Shole Digar Barzan Ishka
Mora Tan Man Dhan Sab Phook Diya; Ye Jaan Bhi Pyare Jalaa Jaana

May my soul be sacrificed for you, increase the fire; add yet another ember atop my desire!
You have burnt body, heart and wealth; so now, also finish my life with fire!

Bas Khaama E Khaam Navaa E ‘Raza’ Na Ye Tarz Meri Na Ye Rang Mera
Irshaad E Ahibba Naatik Tha Nachar Is Raah Padaa Jaana

The poem of ‘Raza’ is crude, unskilled; this is not my hue nor is this my method,
The directive of friends prodded me thus; compelled, this is the path I had to tread!

Countless Blessings And Peace Be Upon The Holy Prophet, His Noble Companions, His Noble Progeny, And All Those Who Rightly Follow Him, Until The Last Day.

Follow the Sunnah | Wearing the Turban (Imamah Sharif)

To tie (wear) the Imamah (Turban) is Sunnah, especially during Salah, since the reward for the Salah that is read whilst wearing a turban is much more. A few Ahadith are being presented here regarding the virtues and excellence of wearing the turban:

1. Two Rak’ats of Salah performed whilst wearing an Imamah are better than offering Seventy Rak’ats without wearing Imamah. [Daylami, Firdaus bima’ Saur al-Khattab, Vol. 2, Page 265, Hadith 3233]

2. Adopt the tying (wearing) of the Imaama (Turban), for it is the sign of the Angels, and allow it (i.e. the Shimlah) to hang at the back. [Shu'ab al-Iman, Vol. 5, Page 176, Hadith 6262]

3. The distinction between us and the mushriks (polytheists) is that our turbans are worn (tied) on (top of our) hats. [Tirmidhi, Vol. 3, Page 305, Hadith 1791]

4. Wearing an Imamah over a headgear is the difference between us and the Mushrikin [Idol-worshippers]. For every fold of the Imamah that a Muslim wraps around his head, he will be given one Noor on the Day of Judgement. [Suyuti, Al-Jami’ as-Saghir, Page 353, Hadith 5725]

5. My nation will remain steadfast on truth as long as they tie turbans on hats. [Daylami, Musnad Al-Firdows, Vol. 3, Page88, Hadith 4247]

6. Indeed Allah sent Angels wearing these turbans to support me in (the battles of) Badar and Hunayn. Verily, turbans differentiate between Kufr (infidelity) and Iman (faith). [Bayhaqi, Sunan al-Kubra, Vol. 10, Page 14, Hadith 18163]

7. Imamahs are the crowns of the Arabs, so wear the Imamah and your honour will augment. Whoever wears an Imamah; he gains one virtue for every fold . [Jam’ al-Jawami', Vol. 5, Page 202, Hadith 14536]

8. Tie the turban, your tolerance will increase. [Al-Mustadrak ala al-Sahihayn lil-Hakim, Vol. 5, Page 272, Hadith 7488]

9. Offering Salah whilst wearing an Imamah is equivalent to 10,000 virtues. [Daylami, Firdaus bima’ Saur al-Khattab, Vol. 2, Page 406, Hadith 3805]

10. Indeed, Allah and His angels send Salat upon those who wear Imamah (turban) on Friday. [Majma’ al-Zawaid, Vol. 2, Page 394, Hadith 3075]

11. One Salat al-Jumu’ah performed whilst wearing an Imamah is equivalent to 70 without it. [Ibn Asakir, Tarikh Madinah Dimishq, Vol. 37, Page 355]

12. AlaHadrat Mawlana Shah Imam Ahmad Rida Khan (Alayhir Rahmah) has stated:

“The grandson of Sayyiduna Umar Farooq-e-Azam (Radi Allahu Anhu), Sayyiduna Saalim (Radi Allahu Anhu) said, “I came to my father Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) who was tying the turban. Having tied his turban, he (Radi Allahu Anhu) looked at me and asked, “Do you like to wear turban?” I replied, “Why not!” Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) said, “Adopt the Sunnah of wearing turban, you will gain respect and when Satan sees you in turban, he will turn his back. I heard the Rasool of Allah (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) say, “Offering one Salah with a turban is equivalent to offering twenty-five without turban, and one Jumu’ah with turban is equivalent to seventy without turban.” Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) then said, “Oh son! Wear the turban because the angels tie the turban on Friday and send peace until sunset upon those who wear turban.” [Fatawa Radawiyyah, Vol. 6, Page 215]

Important Notes:

1. Tie the Imamah whilst standing, and put on the Pajamah [Shalwar, lower garment] whilst sitting. Whoever does the opposite of this (i.e. he ties the Imamah whilst sitting, and puts on the lower garment whilst standing); he will be afflicted with a disease, for which there is no cure. [Bahar-e-Shariat, Part 16, Page 303]

2. Bind the Imamah whilst standing facing the Qiblah. [Kashf al-Iltibas fi Istihbab al-Libas lil Shaykh Abd-ul-Haq Dehlawi, Page 38]

3. It is more appropriate to wrap the first fold of the Imamah towards the right side of the head. [Fatawa Radawiyyah, Vol. 22, Page 199]

4. When one ties a turban, then the Shimlah (tail) should hang on the back, between both shoulders. There is a difference of opinion regarding the length of the Shimlah. However, the maximum length should be such, that when one sits, it is not pressed (under you). [Fatawa Alamgiri, Vol. 5, Page 330]

5. Some people do not hang a Shimlah at all. This is contrary to the Sunnah. There are some who bring it to the top and then tuck it into the turban. This too should not be done, especially in the condition of Salah, as it would be Makruh. [Bahar-e-Shariat, Part 16, Page 418]

6. The Shimlah (i.e. unwrapped end of the turban) of the blessed Imamah of the Beloved and Blessed Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) would generally hang behind his blessed back, sometimes it would be on the right hand side, and sometimes there would be two Shimlahs between his two blessed shoulders. To keep the Shimlah on the left hand side is against the Sunnah. [Ash’ah al-Lam’aat, Vol. 3, Page 582]

7. The length of the Shimlah of the Imamah should be at least the width of four fingers, and at most up to the middle of the back, i.e. approximately the length of one arm. [Fatawa Radawiyyah, Vol. 22, Page 182]

8. When one wishes specifically to re-tie the turban, then it should not be removed and thrown onto the ground, but it should be unwrapped in the manner in which it was tied. [Fatawa Alamgiri, Vol. 5, Page 330]

9. The Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) used to wear a white topi touching his head under his blessed turban. [Madarij an-Nubuwwah, Vol. 1, Page 471]

10. Even though it is proven that Rasoolullah (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) wore a topi but the beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) also used to wear an Amaama (Turban). In other words, under the turban, he used to wear a topi, and He said that the difference between unbelievers and us is the tying of the turban on a topi. In other words, we keep both these things and they only tie the turban. They do not wear a topi under their turbans. Hence, even when the kuffaar here wear the turban, they do not wear a topi underneath it. Some have explained this Hadith to mean that wearing only the topi is the manner of the mushrikeen (polytheists), but this assertion is incorrect, because even the mushrikeen of Arabia used to tie turbans. It is clearly mentioned in Mirkaat, the annotation of Mishkaat that the small size turban of the beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) was of seven hands in length and the large size turban was of twelve hands in length. In short, the turban should be kept according to this Sunnah (in length). It should not exceed this in length. Some people wear huge (i.e. long) turbans. This should not be done as it is contrary to the Sunnah. In Maarwar (a place in India), many people there tie turbans that are not very wide, but are forty and fifty yards in length. Muslims should not tie turbans like these. [Bahar-e-Shariat, Part 16, Page 419]

11. One should tie it giving a shape like that of a dome. What we now see in Arabia is not Sunnah but it is called I'tijaar, meaning tying the turban round the head and keeping the middle part open. The scholars have deem I'itijaar as Makruh. [Fatawa Radawiyyah, Vol. 22, Page 186-187]

12. I’tijaar, in other words to tie the turban in such a manner that it is not on the head in the middle, is Makruh-e-Tahreemi. To tie an Imamah in this way, even out of Salah is Makruh. [Bahar-e-Shariat, Part 3, Page 372]

13. I’tijaar is to tie the Imamah and leaving the hat (topi) uncovered. [Waqar al-Fatawa, Vol. 2, Page 248 | Fatawa Bahr al-Uloom, Page 106-107]

14. If you have a large kerchief with which you can produce enough folds to cover the whole head, then it will be considered as an Imamah. It is Makruh to bind a small kerchief with which one can only produce one or two folds. [Fatawa Radawiyyah, Vol. 7, Page 299]

15. If Imamah is to be taken off out of some need and there is intention to bind it again, then one sin will be effaced on unwinding each fold. [Fatawa Radawiyyah, Vol. 6, Page 214]

16. The blessed Imamah of the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) was often white, sometimes black and sometimes green. [Kashf al-Iltibas fi Istihbab al-Libas lil Shaykh Abd-ul-Haq Dehlawi, Page 38]

17. Acting upon the auspicious Sunnah of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) i.e. tying the turban relieves one from severe depression and fortifies the capability of endurance. According to the latest scientific research, the fortunate Muslim who adorns an Imamah on a regular basis will remain secured from stroke and various blood-related illnesses. This is because, with the blessings of adorning the Imamah Sharif, the pressure of the blood in the large blood vessels leading towards the brain remains in accordance with its requirement, and so surplus blood is not transported to the brain! Hence, in America, an Imamah-like mask has now been designed for the treatment of stroke.
