Shaikh AbdulQadir Jilani - PT 3‏ (Kiswahili)

Assalaamu alaikum,
Natumai hamjambo.  Ijumaa Kareem
Namalizia risala fupi kuhusu kiongozi wa Mawalii (Masharifu) – Shaikh Sayyid AbdulQadir Jilani RadwiyAllahu Anhu.

AYA:  ALAA INNA AWLIYA ALLAHI LA KHAUFUN ALAIHI WALAHUM YAHZANUN. (YUNUS: 62)

Maswali / maoni yanakaribishwa.
JazakAllah,
Muhammad KHATRI

Shaikh AbdulQadir Jilani - PT 2‏ (Kiswahili)

Assalaamu alaikum,
Natumai hamjambo.

Sheikh akawaambia alikoficha.
Maswali / maoni yanakaribishwa.
JazakAllah,
Muhammad KHATRI

The Origin And Reality Of The Generally Known Teeja, Chaaleeswan, Shash Mahi (Sixth Monthly) And Barsi (Yearly) Fatiha Among The Sunni Muslims:

In the book Anwar-e-Sati'ah and Hashiyah Khazanat ar-Riwayaat it is written that
Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) offered sadqah on the third, seventh and fortieth day of the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Hamzah and repeated the same at every sixth months and at the end of the year. [Anwaar-e-Sati'ah, Page 145]

This is the origin and reality of the generally known Teeja, Chaaleewan, Shash Mahi (sixth monthly) and Barsi (yearly) Fatiha among the sunni Muslims.

Imam al-Nawawi Alaihir raHma has said:

Hadrat Anas bin Malik used to gather his family members on the occasion of Khatm al-Quran and offered Fatiha, in the Presence of Allah for the welfare of all. [Kitab al-Azkaar, Baab Tilawatil Qur'an]

Hakeem Ibn Utbah says that

Once Ibn Abi Lubabah invited a group of the people and told them that he had invited them at his home because he was completing the Khatm al-Qur'an on that day so that they might benefit thereby as the dua on that auspicious occasion receives the acceptance from the Almighty Allah. [Kitab al-Azkaar, Baab Tilawatil Qur'an]

It is also reported by Hadrat Mujahid on reliable authority that

Some righteous persons used to gather the people on the occasion of the Khatm al-Qur'an and told them that on this occasion, the Mercy (Rahmat) from Allah descends upon those present there. [Kitab al-Azkaar, Baab Tilawatil Qur'an]

This provides sanction from holding the gathering on the occasions of Teejah, and Cheh'lam (Chaliswan) is a practice among the saintly persons of the Ahlus Sunnah, which is in a sense their sunnah.

In Raddul Muhtar it is said that according to a Hadith:

من قرأ الإِخلاص أحد عشر مرة ثم وهب أجرها للأموات أعطي من الأجرِ بعدد الأموات
If a person recites Surah Ikhlas eleven times and conveys its thawab to the deceased Muslims, then he himself shall receive the thawab equal to the total reward given to the souls of the deceased Muslims. [Raddul Muhtar, Qir'at lil Mayyit, Baab ad-Dafan, Vol. 1, Page 666]

It is said in the Shaami:

و يقرء من القران ماتيسرله من الفاتحة و اول البقرة و اية الکرسي و امن الرسول و سورة يس و تبارک الملک و سوره التکاثر و الاخلاص اثني عشر مرة او احدي عشر او سبعا او ثلاثا ثم يقول اللهم اوصل ثواب ماقرئناه الي فلان او اليهم
One may recite the Holy Qur'an by way of Fatiha, on any particular occasion in the following manner: In the beginning Surah Fatiha, then the first there verses of the Surah Baqrah then Ayat-ul-Kursi, the last three verses of the Surah Baqrah, then Surah Yasin, Surah Mulk, Surah Takathur and in the end Surah Ikhlas the last one recited Twelve times or Eleven times or Seven times or Three time then pray to Almighty Allah for the Eesal-e-Sawab in favour of so and so person or persons. [Raddul Muhtar, Qir'at lil Mayyit, Baab ad-Dafan, Vol. 1, Page 666]

In the above passages full procedure of the known offering of Fatiha has been outlined, which in short is that the man offering Fatiha should recite the Holy Qur'an from different places and finally pray to Almighty Allah to grant the reward of the recitation in favour of or persons concerned. Since it is sunnah to raise hand at the time of final prayer of Eesal-e-Sawab, the man should raise both palms joined together up to the shoulders. Thus the proof of the Fatiha is established

Eleven Signs of Love for the Beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam)

Someone who claims that he/she loves another will prefer that person to all others, he will also prefer what they like, if it were otherwise then he would be acting and his love would not be sincere. The following signs will be apparent in those who truly love the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam,

First: The first sign of love for the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, is that he/she will follow his example, apply his prophetic way in words, deeds, obedience to his commands, avoidance of whatever he prohibited and adopt his manner in times of ease, hardship, joy and disappointment. Allah says, "Say (Prophet Muhammad, 'If you love Allah, follow me and Allah will love you." [Aal Imran : 31]

Second: The second sign is that he/she will set aside his own desires and appetite in preference to the law established and encouraged by the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam. Allah says, "Those before them who had made their dwelling in the abode (City of Medina), and because of their belief love those who have emigrated to them; they do not find any (envy) in their chests for what they have been given and prefer them above themselves, even though they themselves have a need." [al Hashr : 9]

Third: The third sign is that a person's anger of others is only for the sake of seeking the pleasure of Allah. Anas, Malik's son was told by the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, "My son, if you can refrain from holding a grudge in your heart from morning to evening, then do so." He then added, "My son, that is part of my prophetic way. Whosoever revives my way has loved me, and whosoever loves me is with me in the Garden." [Sunan Tirmidh, Kitab al-Ilm, Vol. 4, Page 151]

If a person possesses this fine quality, then he/she has perfect love for Allah and His Messenger. If he is found to be slightly lacking in this quality then his love is imperfect, but not devoid of it. The proof of this is found in the saying of the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, when a person faced punishment for imbibing. As the person was about to receive his punishment a man cursed the offender, whereupon the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "Do not curse him. He loves Allah and His Messenger." [Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al-Hudood, Vol. 3, Page 133]

Fourth: The fourth sign is that one mentions the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, in abundance – whosoever loves something, it is constantly upon his tongue. [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol. 2, Page 32]

Fifth: The fifth sign is yearning to meet the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam. Every lover yearns to be with their beloved. When the tribe of Ash'arites approached Medina, they were heard chanting, "Tomorrow, we will be with those we love, Muhammad and his Companions!" [Dalail an-Nabuwwah lil Bayhaqi, Vol. 5, Page 351]

Sixth: The sixth sign is that as well as the remembrance of the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, someone who loves him will be found praising and respecting him whenever he is mentioned and display humility, and lower himself when he hears his name. We are told by Isaac At -Tujibi that after the passing of the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, whenever the Companions heard his name they became humble, their skin trembled and they wept. As for the other followers of the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, some experienced the same out of love and yearning for him, whereas others did so out of respect and esteem. [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol. 2, Page 33]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/t1/38865_416070410333_2880643_n.jpg

Seventh: The seventh sign is the love expressed for the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, and the People of his House, and his Companions – the Emigrants (Muhajirun) and the Helpers (Ansar) alike for his sake. A person with this sign will be found hostile to those who hate them.

Of Al Hasan and Al Hussain, may Allah be pleased with them, the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "O Allah, I love them, so please love them."

Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol. 5, Page 23
Sahih Muslim, Kitab al Fadhail, Vol. 4, Page 1883
Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol. 5, Page 327

Al-Hasan said that the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, also said, "O Allah, I love him, so love the one who loves him." Of his two grandsons, the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, also said, "Whosoever loves them, loves me." Then he said. Whosoever loves me, loves Allah. Whosoever hates them hates me and whosoever hates me hates Allah."

Muqaddam Sunan Ibn Maja, Vol.1, Page 51
Majma' az-Zawaid, Vol. 9, Page 180

The Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "Do not make my companions targets after me! Whosoever loves them loves them it is because they love me, and whosoever hates them it is through their hatred of me. Whosoever harms them, harms me. Whosoever does something to hurt me does it is as if it is hurtful to Allah. Whosoever does something that appears to be hurtful to Allah is about to be seized."

Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol. 5, Page 358
Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, Page 54

Of his family, the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said referring to Hadrat Fatima, may Allah be pleased with her, "She is part of me, whosoever hates her hates me."

Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol. 5, Page 24
Sahih Muslim, Kitab Fadhail as-Sahaba, Vol. 4, Page 1903

The Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, told Hadrat Ayesha to love Osama, Zaid's son because he loves him. [Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Manaqib, Vol. 5, Page 342]

The Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, spoke of the Helpers (Ansar) saying, "The sign of certain faith is love for the Ansar, whereas the sign of hypocrisy is hatred for them."

Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol. 5, Page 27
Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Iman, Vol. 1, Page 9
Sahih Muslim, Kitab al Iman, Vol. 1, Page 85

Umar's son tells us that the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "Whosoever loves the Arabs loves them because he loves me. Whereas whosoever hates them hates them because of their hatred of me." [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol 2, Page 34]

The fact is when someone loves another, he loves everything that person loves, and this was indeed the case with the Companions. When Anas saw the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, eating a piece of pumpkin, he said, "From that day I loved pumpkins." [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol. 2, Page 34]

Al-Hasan, the grandson of the Prophet, may the peace of Allah be upon them, went with Jafar to Salma and asked her to prepare some food the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, used to eat. [Shamail Tirmidhi, Page 155]

Umar once saw the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, wearing a pair of yellow coloured sandals, so he too wore a pair of the same colour.

Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al-Libas, Vol. 7, Page 132
Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Hajj, Vol. 2, Page 844

Eighth: The eighth sign is hatred of anyone who hates Allah and His Messenger, praise and peace be upon him. Such people are those who show hostility towards to Allah and His Messenger. Believers having this sign avoid all who oppose the prophetic way, and are in opposition to those who introduce innovations into the prophetic way (that are against the spirit of Islam) and find the law he established burdensome. Allah says, "You shall find no nation believing in Allah and the Last Day loving anyone that opposes Allah and His Messenger." [al Mujadilah : 22]

Ninth: The ninth sign is found in those who love the Qur'an which the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, brought, by which the Prophet and they were guided. When asked about the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, Hadrat Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, "His character was that of the Qur'an." Part of the love of the Qur'an is listening to its recitation, acting according to it, understanding it, keeping within its bounds and the love of Prophet Muhammad's way. [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol. 2, Page 35]

Sahl, Abdullah's son spoke of this sign saying, "The sign of loving Allah is love of the Qur'an. The sign of loving the Qur'an is the love of the Prophet. The sign of loving the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, is love of his prophetic way. The sign of loving the prophetic way is the love of the Hereafter. The sign of loving the Hereafter is hatred for this world. The sign of hatred for this world is that you do not amass any of it except for provisions and what you need to arrive safely with in the Hereafter." [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol. 2, Page 35]

Masood's son said, "No one needs to ask himself about anything other than the Qur'an, if he loves the Qur'an then he loves Allah and His Messenger" praise and peace be upon him. [Bayhaqi fil Aadaab, Page 522]

Tenth: The tenth sign of love for the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, is to have mercy on his nation by advising them well, striving for the betterment of their interest and removing anything that is harmful from them in the same way that the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, was "gentle and merciful to the believers." [al-Taubah : 128]

Eleventh: The eleventh sign of perfect love is found in whosoever restricts himself through self-denial, preferring poverty to the attractions of the world. The Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, told Abu Sa'id Al Khudri, "Poverty for those of you who love me flows quicker than a flood from a mountain's peak to its base." [Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab az-Zuhd, Vol. 4, Page 7]

A man came to the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I love you." The Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, warned, "Be careful of what you say." The man repeat his love for him thrice, whereupon the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam told him, "If you love me prepare yourself quickly for poverty." [Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab az-Zuhd, Vol. 4, Page 7]

Shaikh AbdulQadir Jilani - PT 1 (Kiswahili)

Assalaamu alaikum,
Natumai hamjambo.

Maswali / maoni yanakaribishwa.

JazakAllah,

Muhammad KHATRI

What If A Man Had To Bear A Child Instead Of A Woman?

Undoubtedly, a mother faces many hardships for her child. Only a mother can understand the pain she has to endure during the delivery. How easy it is for a man that he doesn’t have to give birth to a child. AlaHadrat Imam Ahmad Rida Khan (Alayhir Rahmah) has explained in Fatawa Ridawiyyah.

A woman faces hardships for a long time whereas a man only gets pleasure. She keeps the child in her womb for nine months and faces difficulties in walking, getting up, sitting down and she faces death upon every contraction during childbearing. Furthermore, a woman bears the pains of bleeding after giving birth, and is unable to sleep due to the cramps. That’s why Allah has said:

"His mother bore him in the womb with hardship, and delivered him with hardship; and carried him and lactating him is for thirty months." [Kanz-ul-Iman: Surah Al-Ahqaf, Verse 15]

So for every child she gives birth to, she is sentenced to three years of hard labour. If a man had to give birth to even a (small being as a) mouse, he would have vowed to never do it again in his life. [Fatawa Razawiyyah, vol. 27, Page 101]

Note: The blessed Fatwa of AlaHadrat (Alayhir Rahmah) not only highlights the importance of a mother but also of a wife. A husband should be more kind towards his wife during pregnancy. He should help her out in everything. He shouldn’t let her do any hard work. He shouldn’t stress her out by shouting at her or any other means. In fact, he should give her as much rest as possible. Whenever he adores his child, he should also look at his child’s mother with a merciful gaze [and remind himself] of the many difficulties she endured to deliver his beloved child.

Obstacles in the Path of Knowledge

All Praise is due to Allah Almighty and Choicest Salutations upon His August Habib (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him).

I am sharing this brief note extracted from "Fadl al-Ilm wa al-Ulama", the Blessed book by Aarife-Billah, ash-Shaykh al-Imam Naqi Ali al-Qadiri (Alayhir Rahmah) on the Excellence of Knowledge and the Ulama. Here we will discuss about some obstacles to the path of seeking knowledge. I humbly pray that this note will enlighten the hearts and encourage my Muslim brothers and sisters to acquire the knowledge of Deen.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/308471_10150277947805334_672380333_8380780_6901057_n.jpg

Firstly, The strong resistance from the cursed Shaytan.

Be aware that the most hated and dangerous thing to the Cursed Shaytan is the seeking of knowledge. Therefore, he uses all his powers and resources to stop a student from learning. The Shaytan puts the most Waswasa (interference) on a student of Din. No other deed or worship besides the seeking of knowledge experiences such intensified opposition. The methods of combating these interferences are very simple. All the student has to do is remember all the Ayahs and Ahadith pertaining to the excellence of Ilm-e-Din and never pay attention to the obstruction of the evil Shaytan . Surely, an intelligent man will not give preference to the cursed Shaytan over the Bounties of the Merciful Lord SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala.

Secondly, Carnal desires (Nafs) are very demanding.

It hates hardship and loves relaxing. But when one realises that this world (Duniya) is temporary and that the Hereafter (Akhirah) is the everlasting and original abode, then indeed, the hardship of seeking knowledge becomes a pleasure. One must realise that the hardship of seeking knowledge lasts for a very short period and its benefits and pleasures are limitless. As time passes and the student gets the taste of knowledge, he will develop such pleasure that he will never be at peace without reading a book. No matter where he goes or what he does, he will never be relaxed if he does not read a book on Din.

Thirdly, Association with the public.

In the inception, set out some time to study in privacy and as one progress in this field, one will develop the love of knowledge so much so that everything else will have no value.

Fourthly, Worldly fame and honour.

It is obvious that the seeker of worldly fame is never successful and fades away in time to come. Worldly fame and honour is of no comparison to the honour of the Hereafter. How unfortunate are those who seek knowledge for this world and discard the wealth and dignity of the Hereafter? Such people destroy themselves by thinking that they are successful.

On the contrary, those who give preference to Ilm-e-Din over worldly fame, the Merciful Lord SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala certainly blesses them with honour and integrity in both the worlds. Shaykh Abu-Aswad Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho states that there is no merit greater than knowledge. A King rules over the people and the Ulama rules over them. Have you not seen that rulers have no choice but to implement the verdicts of the Ulama when matters are brought to their courts?

Anyone who loves and appreciates knowledge will surely not give preference to the kingdom of the world over it. It is reported that a destitute went to a King for a job. The King said that he was ignorant and not fit to serve him. He left and humbled himself at the feet of Imam Ghazali Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho to study Ilm-e-Din. There, he learnt about the dangers of this world and harms of associating with Kings and the wealthy people. However, Imam Ghazali’s company and tutorship made him an intellectual celebrity. One day, the King called him and assessed his profound knowledge. He was overwhelmed and said: “Now you are worthy of my service. What post would you like to take up?” The 'Aalim replied, “In the past, I was of no use to you and now you are of no use to me. Previously, you did not like me and now I do not like you.”

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1/64870_438783995333_7163546_n.jpg

Fifthly, The greed of wealth.

It is obvious that the perishable wealth of this mundane world cannot be compared to the wealth of knowledge. When a man dies, his wealth does not accompany him to the grave, but the knowledge accompanies him to the grave and always assists him until he enters Jannah. Worldly wealth decreases when it is spent but knowledge increases when it is imparted. The wealthy have to protect his wealth while knowledge protects the Alim. Furthermore, Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala does not leave one a destitute if one gives preference to the seeking of knowledge over business and trade. Imam Ghazali Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho records in his Ihya al-Uloom,

One who develops understanding in Din, Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala protects him from depression and provides sustenance for him from places he cannot imagine of.

Sixthly, The destruction of wealth.

Man gets very worried and depressed when he thinks of his undetermined life span and shortage of time. Hence, he wrongfully deduces that knowledge is an ocean and one’s entire life span is too little to achieve it. This is absolute ignorance. No soul can reach the ultimate peak of perfection in knowledge in one’s lifetime, so much so that Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala Commands His Beloved Rasool Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him

Beloved Rasool, say, “O my Lord! Increase my knowledge”. [Surah Taha : 114]

Taking all this into account, there is still no seeker of knowledge that is deprived of honour and excellence. A sincere student of Ilm-e-Din will not experience embarrassment and failure. All the branches of Ilm-e-Din are certainly profitable no matter how little is acquired. The Hadith Sharif states that if a person dies whilst studying Ilm-e-Din and did not complete his course, he will be raised amongst the Ulama on the Day of Qiyamah. Another narration says that if a student of Din dies while studying, the Angels will complete his studies for him in his grave. Is this a small benefit that Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala Divinely provides for the people of learning (Ulama)?

Seventh, Not to get a compassionate teacher (Ustaz).

This is of paramount importance to a successful student. Surely, one will not be able to achieve anything if the Ustaaz does not teach correctly. Nowadays, there are very few sincere teachers of Din that are dedicated to their students and this has greatly contributed to the dwindling number of good students.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/307266_10150277947700334_672380333_8380775_936705_n.jpg

Eighth, The concern for livelihood.

Eight obstruction is the most difficult one and this refers to obtain just enough to carry on with one’s daily needs. Always remember that extra is always extra. The greed for extra is generally found in every human. This greed for extra has destroyed many people. The last two obstructions are serious problems because if one does not get a compassionate teacher what can one benefit from him and if one does not get enough food to eat then how is one to concentrate on studies? Weakness and hunger are serious problems that cannot be controlled by a student. Therefore, it is very important for the wealthy to cater for the student.

Likewise, financial contributions of generous Muslims to Islamic Institutes will certainly remove these problems. There are enormous virtues for the teachers and students of Din and even more so for those who financially keep these Institutes operational. The same will apply to those who encourage people to support such institution. The Hadith Sharif states:

إِنَّ الدَّالَّ عَلَى الْخَيرِ كَفَاعِلِهِ
Indeed, the promoter of virtue is like the virtuous. [Sunnah Tirmidi, Hadith 2739]

Besides the above Hadith Sharif there are numerous other Ahadith Sharif in the Siha-Sitta that speaks of the virtues on this subject. However, be mindful that the Thawab of actions vary according to situations and moments. Therefore, the status of the noble Sahaba Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho are so lofty because they promoted the Din and sacrificed their lives in the most difficult and volatile moments and situations in the history of Islam. Hence, if one promotes Ilm-e-Din in these distraught moments of poverty, one will certainly achieve more Thawab than the wealthy individuals and rich Kings of the past who promoted knowledge. This is so because firstly, the Kings had great resource available and secondly, they lived in the era when Ilm-e-Din was well and alive, progressing day-by-day. The people too, were very honourable and loved to study the Din.

A Sincere Request

Beloved Muslim brethren! Awaken from your dreams of fantasies and seek the knowledge of Din. This is your guide to success in the Hereafter. Why do you waste so much of time in fruitless activities in this temporary abode and pay no heed to the real success and salvation? Spend some time to acquire Ilm-e-Din so that you may distinguish between good and bad. Ignorance is no excuse in the Divine Court of Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala. In fact, it is a sin on its own. This knowledge is helpful in all aspects of this world and the Hereafter. It will save you from embarrassment and humiliation. Spend some money and time to earn this great wealth. Do not wait for the last moment before you think of studying. It will be useless!!

The Merit Of An Aalim Over An Aabid

It is recorded that two persons were mentioned in the presence of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam), an Aabid (worshipper) and an Aalim (learned). The Beloved Rasool (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “The merit of an Aalim over an Aabid is like my prominence over an insignificant amongst you.” [Tirmidhi]

Seeking One Section Of Knowledge To Educate Others

It is stated in the Hadith Shareef that if a person seeks one section of knowledge to educate others, Allah Ta’ala will bless him with the reward of seventy Siddiqeen. [Fadlul-I’lm-wal-Ulama]

Duty To Search For Knowledge

Shaykh Muhyidin ibn Arabi {May Allah be pleased with him} said:

"Your first duty is to search for the knowledge which establishes your ablution and prayer, your fasting and reverence. You are not obliged to seek out more than this. This is the first door of the journey; then work; then moral heedfulness; then asceticism; then trust."

The Most Ignorant Situation

Sa'id ibn al-Jubayr {The Mercy of Allah be upon him} said:

“A person will never cease to be knowledgeable as long as he continues to study, however when he departs from seeking knowledge, and then thinks he is sufficed with what he has learned, then he is in the most ignorant situation he has ever been in”.

All Praises is due to Allah Almighty SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, choicest Salams and Salutations upon His Beloved Habib, Sayyiduna Muhammadur-Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam, his noble family, the illustrious Sahabah and distinguished Awliya Ridwanullahi Ta'ala Alaihim Ajma'een.

A rich store of information about Gawth al-Aazam is conveniently available, to those familiar with the religious and spiritual tradition of Islam, in his names, his surnames, and the many titles conferred upon him by his devoted followers. It is not unusual for these to take up several lines in an Arabic manuscript, but let us start with the short form of His name:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/423348_10150574142985334_1138586157_n.jpg
O Ghawth! You hold a place of prominence ... Your feet are above others heads in eminence

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani
Shaykh:

A term applied throughout the Islamic world to respected persons of recognized seniority in learning, experience and wisdom. Its basic meaning in Arabic is “an elder; a man over fifty years of age.” [The spellings Sheikh, Shaikh and Shaykh may also be encountered in English-language publications.]

‘Abd al-Qadir:
This is HIS personal name, meaning “Servant of the All-Powerful.” [The form ‘Abdul Qadir, which the reader may come across elsewhere, is simply an alternative transliteration of the Arabic spelling.] It has always been a common practice, in the Muslim community, to give a male child a name in which ‘Abd is prefixed to one of the Names of Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala.

al-Jilani:

A surname ending in “i” will often indicate the bearer’s place of birth. Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho was born in the Iranian district of Gilan, south of the Caspian Sea, in A.H. 470/1077-8 C.E. [In some texts, the Persian spelling Gilani is used instead of the arabicized form al-Jilani. The abbreviated form al-Jili, which may also be encountered, should not be confused with the surname of the venerable ‘Abd al-Karim al-Jili Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho [A.H.827/1424 C.E.], author of the celebrated work al-Insan al-Kamil, who came from Jil in the district of Baghdad.]

Let us now consider a slightly longer version of the Shaykh’s name, as it occurs near the beginning of Al-Fath ar-Rabbani :

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/421069_10150574143250334_1838001971_n.jpg
O master! For the sake of your dignity ... Upon your servant’s plight take pity

Sayyiduna ‘sh-Shaykh Muhyi’d-Din Abu Muhammad
‘Abd al-Qadir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho
Sayyiduna ‘sh-Shaykh:

“Our Master, the Shaykh.” A writer who regards himself as a Qadiri, a devoted follower of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, will generally refer to the latter as Sayyiduna , or Sayyidi .

Muhyi’d-Din:

“Reviver of the Religion.” It is widely acknowledged by historians, non-Muslim as well as Muslim, that Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho displayed great courage in reaffirming the traditional teachings of Islam, in an era when sectarianism was rife, and when materialistic and rationalistic tendencies were predominant in all sections of society. In matters of Islamic jurisprudence and theology , he adhered quite strictly to the highly “orthodox” school of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho.

Abu Muhammad:

“Father of Muhammad.” In the Arabic system of nomenclature, a man’s surnames usually include the name of his first-born son, with the prefix Abu [Father of……..].

Radi Allahu ‘Anhu:

“May Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala be well pleased with him!” This benediction is the one customarily pronounced - and spelled out in writing - after mentioning the name of a Companion of the Prophet [Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala bless him and give him peace]. The preference for this particular invocation is yet another mark of the extraordinary status held by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu in the eyes of his devoted followers.

Finally, we must note some important elements contained within this even longer version:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/430505_10150574142455334_752027993_n.jpg
The art of giving is you by inheritance ... The Prophet bequeathed to you his pittance

al-Ghawth al-A'zam Sultan al-Awliya’ Sayyiduna ‘sh-Shaykh
Muhyi’d-Din ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani al-Hasani al-Husaini
al-Ghawth al-A'zam:

“The Supreme Helper” [or, “The Mightiest Succor”]. Ghawth is an Arabic word meaning:

A cry for aid or succor.
Aid, help, succor; deliverance from adversity.
The chief of the Saints, who is empowered by Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala to bring succor to suffering humanity, in response to His creatures’ cry for help in times of extreme adversity.

Sultan al-Awliya’:

“The King of the Saints.” This reinforces the preceding title, emphasizing the supremacy of the Ghawth above all other orders of sanctity.

al-Hasani al-Husaini:

“The descendant of both Imam al-Hasan Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho and Imam al-Husain Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, the grandsons of the Prophet [Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala bless him and give him peace].” To quote the Turkish author, Shaykh Muzaffer Ozak Efendi [may Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala bestow His mercy upon him]:

“The lineage of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho is known as the Chain of Gold, since both his parents were descendants of the Messenger [Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala bless him and give him peace]. His noble father, ‘Abdullah Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, traced his descent by way of Imam al-Hasan Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, while his revered mother, Umm al-Khayr Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, traced hers through Imam al-Husain Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho.”

As for the many other surnames, titles and honorific appellations that have been conferred upon Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, it may suffice at this point to mention al-Baz al-Ash’hab .
