It is narrated by Hazrat Naafi RadiAllahu Anhu:
Translation: Whenever Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar Radiallahu Anhuma missed the congregational Isha Salaah due to some reason, he would spend the rest of the night in worship. Hazrat Bishr bin Moosa Alaihir Rahma said: He would spend the entire night in worship.
Hazrat Naafi' RadiAllahu Anhu also narrated:
Translation: Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar Radiallahu Anhuma used to stay up the whole night in Salaah. Then he would ask: "O Naafi', has the time of sahar (pre-dawn) arrived? I would reply, "No." So he would resume his Salaah. After a while, he would ask again: "O Naafi', has sahar time come?" I would reply, "Yes, it has." Then he would sit down and remain engaged in istighfaar (seeking forgiveness) and dua (supplication) until the time of Fajr began. (Hilyatul-Awliya, Volume 1 Page 303-304, Darul Fikr, Beirut)
Powerful Reminder
This reminds us to value congregational Salaah. If missed due to a valid excuse, it should be followed by sincere night worship, especially before Fajr, through Salaah, istighfar, and dua.
