Worship On The Day Of Ashura

» Shaykh Harifaysh Alayhir Rahmah, the great preacher of Islam said:

"One who observed vigil (for worship) in the night of Ashura is as if he worshiped Allah equivalent to the worship done by those inhabiting in the seven heavens." [Hashiya I'anat al-Talibeen, Vol. 2, Page 444-445]

» It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali Radi Allahu Anhu that:

"Whoever recites Surah Ikhlas 1000 times on the day of Ashura, Allah - the most gracious - will put the glance of Mercy on him and whoever receives his glance of mercy will never experience the divine wrath." [Nuzhatul Majaalis, Vol. 1, Page 231]

» The beloved Prophet (may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) has said:

"Fast on the day of Ashura and go against the Jews, fast a day before it or after it as well." [Musnad Imam Ahmad, Vol. 1, Page 518, Hadith 2154]

Note: Whenever you observe the fast of Ashura, it is better to fast on either the 9th or 11th of Muharram as well.

» A renowned exegetist of the Quran, Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan (Alayhir Rahmah) has stated,

"If a person fasts on the 9th and 10th of Muharram he/she will gain immense reward. If someone cooks delicious foods for his family on the 10th of Muharram, there will be blessings in his house for the whole year. It is better to cook ‘Khichrra’ (a dish prepared by cooking grinded lentils, rice and meat together) and make Fatiha for Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (Radi Allahu Anhu). This is very tried and trusted. If someone takes a bath on this date (the 10th of Muarram) he will be protected from illnesses for the whole year because the water of Zam Zam reaches all the waters on this day." [Tafseer Rooh al-Bayan, Vol. 4, Page 142 | Islami Zindagi, Page 102]
